Some people, particularly non-golfers, may perceive golf to be a game of sports that does not involve a great deal of physical effort. While golfers may not sweat out as much when playing compared to basketball players, the game still entails full body movement that requires strong physical exertion of effort.
Thus if anyone intends to excel in this equally competitive game, he must gear himself up with adequate strength and muscle power that comes through specific techniques of golf exercises. This is absolutely necessary for proper conditioning and readiness to play for experienced players and to prevent unnecessary bodily injury for golf neophytes.
For a more holistic conditioning of the golfer’s body, he needs to work in developing not just his muscle power but total body flexibility. This is basically achieved by stretching exercises but also requires other specialized exercises that are meant to also train him physically for the right mechanics of golfing.
These special golf performance enhancing exercises involve the following:
- Squatting: In a standing position, spread out your legs at a distance wider than your shoulder length. Slowly assume the squat position and hold it for no less than 30 seconds. Do it for at least three moves resting for a minute in between.
- Swinging Legs: Stand beside something which you could put your hand on to support your balance like the wall. Then swing your right leg back and forth stretching it to the farthest you can and swinging it as fast as you can for 10 times. Do the same with your left leg. Then facing the wall and supporting your balance with both hands, swing your right leg sideways to the farthest you can with the same speed and number of times. Do the same with your left leg. This exercise enhances hip movement resulting in increased golf swing power.
- Clasping Wrists: Stretch your hands sideways at shoulder level. For at least 30 seconds, do a close-open hand motion at the quickest manner you can. Do it no less than three times with one minute rest interval.
You may do it simultaneously with both hands or alternately with your right and left hand. This exercise develops hand and arm flexibility.
Other exercises involve rotational and dumbbell workouts. Doing specialized golf exercises on a regular basis would surely develop the muscle power, body flexibility and proper game mechanics that you would need for optimum playing performance that could very well result in winning your golfing games.
