How to Know if Taking Golf Lessons is For You

June 29, 2010 By Leave a Comment

Have you been debating with yourself whether you should take personal golf lessons or not? Even if you are just absolutely new to golfing or you have already spent quite some time going to and fro the golf course, taking golfing lessons will never be a waste of time. You will always find it to your advantage to receive some extra help to improve your game.

Many people still have misconceptions and doubts about taking golf lessons, most of which is the idea that it won’t give you enough benefits equal to how much it costs. But of course at the end of the day, it is up to you to decide whether golfing lessons will be for you. Here are several advantages and other factors you may want to consider in helping you make your choice.

Main advantages:

1.      Avoidance of injury is one of the best benefits of taking golfing lessons. A professional golf instructor will be able to guide you through the proper stances and shots that will keep you from having injuries and poor techniques.

2.      Back injury and other sorts of back pain are mainly caused by improper swings. Learning the proper techniques in your golf swing will help you avoid this and will keep your back healthy always.

3.      A lot of people who do not take golf lessons acquire improper habits and poor stances. They also would tend to use the wrong equipment, giving them a huge disadvantage in their game. Golf lessons will help you avoid these errors earlier on.

4.      Your instructor will also be your coach. He will be with you in your one-on-one lessons and it will be very helpful to have real time feedback.

5.      Golf lessons will bring you through a lesson plan that progresses from the basics to more challenging techniques. Since your lessons will be apart from your actual game time, you will have a more focused mindset to learn and listen to your coach.

Some other factors:

1.      Your golf coach will also be there to give you feedback on the wrong stances and techniques that you do. You must be open to constructive criticism and change, for this will be to your benefit. If you are not ready to be open this way, then golf lessons will be a waste for you.

2.      Your golf lessons will take some time and complete attendance is a must. Cancelling or moving your lesson’s schedule can affect your progress in the lessons. You must really be committed to it.

3.      In taking golfing lessons, be prepared to be scrutinized by your coach. Make sure you are ready and comfortable with this.

4.      If you’ve been playing golf for a while already, and you know a lot about the game, you still need to be open to the lessons. By observing and listening to your coach, you will be able to make the best out of your golf lessons.

Now that you know the advantages and other things you can consider in golf lessons, you can now make the decision whether or not taking golf lessons and having a golf coach is for you. In the end, the most important thing is improving your game and enjoying it even more.

Making Your Golf Lessons More Effective with A Golfing Journal

June 24, 2010 By Leave a Comment

You will be surprised that a lot of people who take golfing lessons emerge from those lessons as though they did not take them at all. There are many possible reasons for this occurrence. But more importantly, as the player, you shouldn’t allow this to happen to you. Aside from paying close attention to your golf instructor’s lessons and practicing what you learned frequently, there is one other secret to improving in golf.

Keeping a golfing journal is a key factor in your golfing lessons. Several golf instructors require their students to do so, but it would be very helpful for you to have one in or out of your lessons. Your golfing journal will be your record of areas of improvement and success. You and your golf instructor will also use it to take down your homework or the extra practices you have to do. This journal will also keep the important notes and advices your instructor gives you. In this manner, you won’t easily forget the important tips and techniques taught to you. During your practice time, when your instructor is not around, you will be able to use your journal as a reference of the aspects you have to polish.

Although there are many sleek and expensive golf journals available in the market, you do not need to spend so much to be able to have a golfing journal. All you need is a small notebook and a pen. It is better to have it smaller in size so that it is easy for you to pocket or to attach to your push cart. Your golfing journal should always be easily accessible.

Your golfing journal will also record your game progress for you and your instructor to see. You will see where you have needed improvement and where you eventually succeeded in improving. You must write in your journal as often as you can, especially after your lesson or your practice session. Take note of your scores and stats and even your physical condition. You will eventually be able to pin point positive and negative patterns in your game. The recordings in your journal will also show you your strengths and weaknesses. Even when your golf lessons end, it would be a great advantage to still keep using your golfing journal. This way, your game and techniques will always be progressive.

With this simple technique of using a golfing journal during and after your golf lessons, you will find that your improvement will be faster and your game better.
