Golfing Lessons: Chipping Tips

March 6, 2012 By Leave a Comment

Golf chipping is a type of shot utilized from a short range around the greens. Its goal is to let the ball travel in air at the least amount of time, land it safely on the green and let it roll towards the hole.

When chipping, remember that your hands should lead your swing. Ensure that your hands lead the clubface through impact with the ball. You should not bend or break your wrists. Breaking your wrists upon contact with the ball is done to create spin.

To improve your chipping skills, take a natural swing while keeping your hands and wrists locked and let the angle of the clubface and your swing lot the ball. You can also practice by using drills or exercises that would help you improve this skill.

You should perform this drill with grace in order for you to be able to produce a loft and quietly allow the ball to roll along the green and into the hole. But this does not mean that you should slow down your swing because you will end up making physical mistakes that will make your shot worse.

There are drills or exercises you can practice during your free time. Nothing beats constant practice after all. Aside from the usual stuff you learn from your golf teacher, practice helps you improve on your weaknesses.

February 14, 2012 By Leave a Comment

A proper golf swing delivers a huge impact on the game. Therefore, it is best to avoid bad shots that could break a good performance. How do you avoid bad golf shots? It is important that you know what causes a bad shot and how you can avoid or correct it.

A sliced golf shot happens when the ball curves from left to right. It is caused by a combination of an out-to-in swing path and an open clubface. To avoid a sliced shot, you must learn to hit the ball more from an inside arc by increasing the width of your swing.

The hook shot, the opposite of a sliced golf shot, curves hard to the left. It is caused by a left hand grip that is too strong or it can be a result of weak or sloppy wrists. To fix this, you must check your grip, the pressure and your control. Golf exercises are also beneficial for weak wrists.

These are just two of the most common bad shots a golf player makes. There are many more bad golf shots to avoid. In order to gain knowledge, you must attend golf lessons that teach you the fundamentals of playing golf. Proper golf training will teach you the physics of golf swing, the causes of bad shots, and how to prevent them.

Golf Tips Not to Be Taken Seriously

February 1, 2012 By Leave a Comment

If the only thing you know about golf is how many mistresses Tiger Woods has had, then it’s pretty safe to assume that you have no golfing experience whatsoever, not even putt-putt at a miniature golf course. Your closest encounter with the sport is probably catching a glimpse of a tournament on TV when you got lost in search of TMZ (to learn all about the Tiger affairs).

If you do intend to give golf a chance, the following are some tips to help you keep your sense of humor while your swing keeps on missing the ball.

Tip #1 – Nothing attracts a golf ball more than water. Don’t despair if your shots keep on ending up in a water hazard because it’s not really your fault; it’s just the ball’s nature.

Tip #2 – Balls get treed all the time. They don’t ricochet.

Tip #3 – One night, sneak into the course with a ladder and some scuba gear. Gather all the treed and sunken balls and make money off of them. Note: In Australia, water hazards may have sharks, so… make sure you didn’t cut yourself shaving. (Please also note that this tip is entirely jocular in nature. I doubt if any of the compensation lawyers Sydney has will take on your case if you decide to go diving in a shark-infested water hazard to steal golf balls.)

Tip #4 – The veteran golfer most generous with dispensing free (unsolicited) golfing advice is the one with the highest handicap.

Tip #5 – Golf clubs can be demon-possessed. How else are they able to fling themselves from your clutch or do something totally different from what you intended them to do?
